I just picked up one of these at an auction but know very little about it. Any idea as to date and value?
Well as with any antique items, pricing is a sliding scale based on two factors: 1) Overall Condition (including rare qualities, damage, etc.), and 2) when/where you sell. For a table like the one pictured, price is around 125-175 retail (we have it priced at 125), with average auction price probably about half of that amount.
This particular table has been refinished (which can lower or raise value, depending on the buyer) and has the original Mersman sticker, which raises the value. The 4-leg style like this table are also more valuable than the 3-legged tables.
As to age, tables like this have been around for years. Mersman has produced them for quite some time in nearly unchanged stylings, so dating them can been tricky. At times, the date is marked, and apart from that only a few identifiable features and general impressions guide educated guesses as to age. The one pictured is c. 1940. Please email us if you have any other questions, and I hope that helps!
